Q. What is colocation?
A. Colocation is a service where you provide the server equipment and we provide a secure, environmentally controlled data center with high-speed internet connectivity. Because the facilities are shared by multiple customers, the cost of colocation is much cheaper than building and staffing your own data center on site. We manage the facilities and you own and manage your own server, insuring the most secure environment for your data.
Q. What size servers can I colocate at Rapid Pipe?
Although we prefer standard 19″ rack servers, we can accommodate equipment of nearly any size and shape. Just drop us an e-mail and ask.
Q. Can I colocate a desktop or tower PC at Rapid Pipe?
We do provide shelf space for regular desktop computer systems. These systems count as 4 units of rack space.
Q. What is a rack unit?
A rack unit is a standard measurement unit on 19″ rack equipment. A single rack unit is approximately 45mm, or 1.8 inches, in height. Rack units are specified in the number of units as in 4u or 8u.
Q. Do you require a minimum contract?
We do not require any long term contract commitment. All plans are billed month to month.
Q. Do I need to provide my own switch or router to connect to your network?
You do not need any additional equipment, we provide you with up two two Ethernet hand offs from our switch. You may rent additional rack units to install extra switch, router, or other equipment if you wish.
Q. Can I ship you a server?
If you ship a server, please include nothing but the server itself (unless it requires special power or other cabling). Please include a signed copy of the order form. We recommend having the server professionally packed and insuring the item to cover any damages that might occur in shipping. Please provide us with a tracking number once you ship the equipment.
Q. Are your facilities carrier neutral?
We provide bandwidth as part of our colocation services but you are welcome to use any carrier you wish.
Q. What payment options do you accept?
We accept payments by credit card, check, money order, or PayPal.
Q. What managed services can you provide?
We can provide or arrange for most any professional IT services you need.
Q. Where are you located?
We are located in Layton, Utah, which is in Davis county. Our facilities are convenient for customers in Bountiful, Brigham City, Centerville, Clearfield, Clinton, Davis County, Farmington, Fruit Heights, Hooper, Kaysville, Layton, Logan, Morgan, North Ogden, North Salt Lake, Northern, Ogden, Riverdale, Roy, South Ogden, South Weber, Sunset, Syracuse, Uintah, Washington Terrace, Weber County, West Haven, West Point, and West Weber.
